If you support stem cell research: Whether you are a stem cell researcher, or a concerned citizen, Please Join the Global Medical Research Fund in supporting stem cell research. Please join Team Global (see form below) to receive updates and action alerts on stem cell research.
Our Mission Statement.
Our mission as a non-profit research and educational
organization is to allow private citizens and corporations
to donate and pool our resources. These funds are
then awarded in the form of block grants to various stem
cell research facilities in Ohio and to provide educational
grants to students.
Our current
goals are to support research and therapies that show the
potential to improve or cure various
illnesses and diseases such as but not limited to Cancer,
Multiple Organ Dysfunction Syndrome (MODS), diabetes,
blindness, epilepsy, and Parkinson's disease. We fully
support grants to research agencies, and we direct most of
our resources to embryonic, umbilical cord, and genetic
research.
Fundraising is
carried out in both traditional and non-traditional forms, which includes selling merchandise through Amazon.com, holding fundraiser events throughout the year, seeking grants from corporations, foundations, Government entities , and asking for your donations. We seek to educate the public through our website, press releases, various publications, and seminars.
The Global
Medical Research Fund Is dedicated to help fund medical
treatments involving embryonic stem cells for diseases
and disabilities which Doctors and other professionals have
not been able to successfully treat and cure.
Why
Ohio is so important to stem cell research?
Although Ohio is a failed
state in terms of jobs lost, and unemployment statistics,
The State of Ohio has one thing going strongly in it's
favor. Ohio's medical research infrastructure
has the Cleveland Clinic and associated hospitals, The Akron
Biomedical Research Corridor, University Heights Hospitals,
and the Summa Healthcare Network. These medical
infrastructures make Ohio #1 in the world in terms of
biomedical research capability. Stem cell research could greatly benefit from Ohio, and Ohio could greatly benefit from stem cell research; it is a perfect match!
Although embryonic and related stem cell
research is coming to Ohio we felt that a 501(c)3
organization was needed in this state to give a needed boost
to funding, to help keep focus on finding cures, to
raise awareness and education in regards to stem cell
research in our area.
Why Embryonic Stem Cell Research /
Genetics?
The
reasons The Global Medical Research Fund is not focusing on
one specific disease is rather straightforward.
Embryonic Stem Cell Research is universal and
crosses many medical research fields -- what is
meant by universal is that once the manipulation of
embryonic stem cells are mastered (this is where
embryonic stem cell research is currently) the medical
applications will quickly follow.
The genetic component of embryonic stem cell
research is the same with all types of stem cells.
Genetic research provides the key to manipulating
the stem cell. Without genetic research the entire
scope of embryonic stem cell research would collapse,
in short genetics provides the tools in our toolbox.
The reason to use embryonic stem cells:
Although the news programs and pundits like to hype the
use of (so-called) adult stem cells, embryonic
stem cells will remain the gold standard of stem cell
research for the foreseeable future, because they
contain the ability to be used universally throughout
the human body. That is embryonic stem cells can
become ANY TISSUE OR CELL TYPE needed to repair
or replace damaged tissue in the human body.
It is critical that all of us decide what we
believe is just and moral (based on facts) concerning our children, loved
ones, the use of Embryonic stem cell research and that we
help to educate those around us. In this way, we can
influence what future world we will live in.
Many forces are already at work changing our
world. In the coming years, Embryonic Stem Cell Research
will be one of the most powerful technologies in medical
applications. As this technology is developed, people will
often try to shape our views about stem cell research in
order to influence if and how it is used. As informed
citizens, if we do not help make those decisions, they will
be made for us by others who may not necessarily have
our best interests in mind. We can participate in the
decision process in many ways. One way to participate is to
continue learning as to better understand some of the
complex issues stem cell research poses for humanity.
Another way to participate is to stay informed about
stem cell research advances and controversies, and then make
your voice heard by as many people as you can influence.
Make a difference, they are our friends, neighbors,
and loved ones whose lives will benefit from embryonic
stem cell research, and it is our responsibility to make our
voices heard!
